Roots.

I am Marike, the creator of Ja’nola. I was born in South Africa and have lived in many major cities throughout my modelling career. I have been living in London for the past three years.

When I started modelling I travelled a lot, however every South African summer I would return to Cape Town to be apart of the season. Finding authentic coffee shops and eateries has always been a very big part of my life and still is.

Whilst in Cape Town one summer, I discovered a delicious granola in one of my favourite café’s. Meeting the chef lead to the introduction of exploring granola recipes.

I started experimenting immediately. In the beginning every batch of granola turns out differently, but eventually you build up a more consistent recipe.

As I enjoyed the process of making granola, I started gifting my granola to friends and family. I would package my granola into beautiful glass jars decorated with a simple ribbon and eco-friendly handwritten labels containing the ingredients.

Last year I started experimenting with incorporating Rooibos Tea extract into my granola recipe making it a healthy product which stems from my background in health and wellness.

Ja’nola.

When I thought of a brand name for my granola, I knew that I wanted something interesting, yet meaningful and unique. In the Afrikaans language the word ‘ja’ means yes which is positive and authentic.

Ja’nola started in my kitchen on Regent’s Canal, London. This was also the starting point of introducing my granola to the market place.
